It is now official: the long-anticipated closure of the European Union’s Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform has taken effect, and it is no longer accepting new complaints. By July 20, 2025, all ongoing proceedings will also be terminated.
This means that all cross-border disputes must now be handled directly by each Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body using their own methods and tools.
Currently, the NAIS ADR Center is only able to handle cross-border disputes via email.
Thanks to co-funding from the European Union’s EISMEA program, the NAIS online platform is currently being translated into English. Very soon, consumers from other EU countries will be able to submit complaints directly through the platform, enabling the handling of cross-border disputes through it.
The closure of the EU’s ODR platform for complaint submission and dispute resolution had been discussed and planned for a long time, and NAIS has published several updates on the topic. Additional changes have also been under discussion. You can revisit them in NAIS’s publication “What Will Change in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Directive 2013/11/EU and How It Affects Traders, Consumers, and ADR Bodies.”
Discussions between the European Commission, traders, consumer representatives, and ADR bodies are ongoing. Stay tuned for updates—here and on NAIS’s social media channels: Facebook and LinkedIn.
